"It is better to build children than to repair men."
Frederic Chopin is one of the most famous composers for the piano the world has ever know, yet many children know little or nothing about him. This special offer from Zeezok will allow you to acquaint your child with one of the greats. As you might have guessed, the first book, Frederic Chopin, Son of Poland, the Early Years is a biography of Chopin's life as a boy. The second book, Frederic Chopin, Son of Poland, Later Years, details his life as a man. The study guide covers both books. The CD not only has on it Chopin's music, but also contains sheet music that you can print out and play if you are blessed enough to know how to play piano and coloring pages for you to color if you don't! :)
Other books in the series include those about Handel, Schubert, McDowell, Mozart, and more. Zeezok also publishes many other books on several other topics. Their goal is to help develop your family's love of God and country. A fine goal indeed! :)
What are the pros of this product? These books are a nice way to introduce your children to not just the music of Chopin, but to Chopin himself. :)
What's not to like? The only thing I could really think of is that the word "gay" was used a lot in the book. Of course, the book was written long ago when the word simply meant "happy" or "merry." Still, just a little heads up that you might want to explain this to your children before they read it. :) (Surprisingly, mine never said a word about it!)
The Crazy Mom take: I enjoyed reading the book (I only got to the younger years so far) with my children. I sort of like the old-fashioned writing style. At first, I thought the books were newly written, but once I started to read them I realized that they had been originally published back in the 40's (my fave decade.) It's always nice to add a little culture to our day. Unfortunately, we don't often make time for these types of books, so I'm glad I had a chance to review this one.
After we read together, I played the CD. The kids seemed to like it. It came in handy as I have been trying to listen to less talk radio, and more music. I'm trying to bring a little sanity to the Crazy House, and this is one way I'm trying to do it. :)
I have always loved biographies, and this was no exception. I love to learn about the early lives of great and talented people. I think Chopin was especially interesting because he was such a virtuoso. I mean, Baber is six, and Chopin first began to play piano at his age. I can't imagine Baber playing like Chopin any time soon, but it was fun to tell the children that they, too, can do great things if they have a passion for it and are willing to practice.
If you want to learn a little more about Chopin (or some of the other great composers) I think you ought to check Zeezok Publishing's Great Musicians series out! :)
