My New Gig! Living My MoMent!

Hey Everyone!

Well, I want to tell you all about my new gig with Living My MoMent.  Unfortunately, I don't have much to tell as I haven't figured it all out yet.  LOL  But it's a new review program I'm checking out for 2011.  I'll be telling you more as I go along.

My first assignment is to tell you about a new book called Stop Reacting and Start Responding by Sharon Silver.  I have received a download of the book and am exactly halfway through it.  It contains a lot of good tips on ways to deal with your child(ren) in a way that will keep you from reacting in the heat of the moment and will build better relationships with your kid(s).

I can't say I am in 100% agreement with every last word in the book, but so far I have found a lot of great ideas.  The book is an easy read and all the tips are broken down into easily digestable parts, each focusing on a different tip.  One of my fave tips is one about teaching kids to react to an alarm clock.  Here's where I have failed.  Epic failure here folks!!!  My 19 yo will sleep through an alarm clock for an hour and has more times that he or I would like to admit.  I am going to try to train my four youngest using the simple tip from the book.  I'll share more about the book in my next post.

Want to learn more about Sharon Silver (Oprah has!) then check out the Live MomTV.com show(http://www.momtv.com/stop-reacting-start-responding) with Sharon Silver (Proactive Parenting™ ) and Abbey Fatica (Living My MoMent) on January 5th, 2011 at 9pm EST to get answers to your pressing parenting issues.

Buy the book here or here.

Check out Sharon Silver's Facebook page here.

More coming soon!!!

New Review!!! Wits and Wagers Family from North Star Games!

Well, hello there!!!  I'm so glad you stopped by!  :)  I bet you'd like to get my posts delivered right to your inbox, now wouldn't you?  So why not sign up for Feedburner?  Check it out, it's right there in my sidebar!  Thanks!!  :)

About the product/service: As part of the TOS Homeschool Crew I received a free Wits and Wagers Family game from  North Star Games so I could let my kids play it and let you know what they think!

The concept is simple.  A question is read off a card and everyone tries to come up with an answer that is closest to the actual answer, but without going over.  (All answers are numerical.  But you already figured that out, didn't you?)  The questions can be about just about anything from how tall the Disney castle is to what the record is for a dog holding tennis balls in its mouth.  Anyway, if you are closest, you get the points.  There's a bit more to it, but it's too hard (for me that is) to explain here.  No sense in getting into all the detailed instructions before you buy the game.  :)  (But seriously, it's quite easy!)

There are also other North Star games that you might be interested in.  Click here to check out Say Anything, or here to check out Cluzzle.  The original Wits and Wagers can be found here.

What are the pros of this product? I like that everyone can play.  (Well, technically it's for 8 and up.)  Because it's a guessing game, and most of the questions are unique enough that most people don't know the exact answer, everybody has a pretty good chance of winning.

Another thing I like is that it doesn't take forever to play.  Kids with a short attention span (or adults with short attention spans, for that matter) will appreciate that the game moves along quickly.  The average game takes only about 20 minutes to play, and the rules can be taught in just minutes(as long as it's not me trying to explain them!)  Want more?  Just play again!

And here's one for fellow Crazy Moms who have kids like mine that tend to lose game pieces.  Most of the game pieces are replaceable.  I mean, you can use any dry erase marker, or you could use a game piece from another game if one is lost.  And if you lose a question card or two, it won't affect the game.  We are just awful about keeping games together so this is actually a huge plus for me.

It's fun and you might even learn something!

What's not to like? Well, call me weird, but the only think I don't like is that the game comes with dry erase markers.  I hate dry erase markers because they stain.  I am glad to report, however, that we have had no incidents here.  Just don't let the kids play in their Sunday best!  :)

Oh, and I have to add, SMALL PARTS!!!  CHOCKING HAZARD FOR KIDS UNDER 3!!!

The Crazy Mom take:  Well, I haven to admit, I have not played the game.  My kids, however, have played it a ton!  They really seem to like it.  It's so nice to see them all sitting around playing a game together.  It's great because it is set up so that the younger kids have pretty much the same chance of winning as the older kids.  Well, my seven year old makes some crazy guesses, but he still has fun, so I am not complaining!  I think it's worth checking into for your family!

Happy playing!!!

What's the bottom line?  List price $19.99

I am going to give Wits and Wagers 4 out of 5 smileys!!!

Introducing Yoplait Frozen Smoothies and a New Contest!

Congrats to my winner Julieanne!!!

Did you know that 70% of us don't eat the recommended 2 servings of fruit each day?  I know I don't always eat two servings, even though I love fruit.  One way I love to eat fruit is smoothies.  Yum!

There's a really easy way to make smoothies with Yoplaits Frozen Smoothies.  Each package of Yoplait Frozen Smoothies contains one full serving of fruit (1/2 cup) and only 110 to 120 calories per serving when made with skim milk. They also contain live and active cultures provided by Yoplait® yogurt and are a great source of calcium!  They come in four flavors:  Blueberry Pomegranate, Triple Berry, Strawberry Banana, and Strawberry Mango Pineapple.

Would you like to try one of these yummy smoothies?  Well, here's a coupon to get you started!  And if you're really lucky, you'll not only win coupons for two more free smoothies, you'll get a brand new Kitchen Aid blender to make them in, complete with a special smoothie button!

  &l t;/param>

To enter the contest, just tell me what flavor you'd like to try.  My fave is the triple berry.  Then you can get an extra entry if you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Google Friend Connect. (See my sidebar.)   Just leave me an additional comment telling me you do.  (One for each way you follow, for up to three addtional entries.)  Leave three additional comments telling me you're a Feedburner subscriber and you'll get three more entries.  (Of course, you actually have to BE a Feedburner subscriber, not just tell me you are.)

The only other thing I ask is that you don't enter if you are in my immediate family or are not yet 18 years old.  To win, you must enter by 11:59 PM on Friday, December 10, 2010.

Note:  The prize pack, information, and giveaway have all been provided by Yoplait and KitchenAid through MyBlogSpark.

New Review!!! Master Ruler!

Well, hello there!!!  I'm so glad you stopped by!  :)  I bet you'd like to get my posts delivered right to your inbox, now wouldn't you?  So why not sign up for Feedburner?  Check it out, it's right there in my sidebar!  Thanks!!  :)

About the product/service: As part of the TOS Homeschool Crew I received two free Master Rulers (standard and metric) as well as The Master Ruler Workbook from Master Innovations so we could check it out here at the Crazy House and let you know how we like it!  :)  It makes measuring simpler and helps students visualize fractions more easily.  I'm not sure that I can really explain the way it works, so it might just do you well to click here to read all about it.  Or check out this YouTube video!

You might also want to check out Master Clock, Master Fractions, Master Angles, and the Marvels of Measurement poster

What are the pros of this product? Well, first of all, the whole flip thing it totally cool and the kids think it's great.  Also, speaking of the kids, the rulers seem quite durable.  The color coding and the fact that you can measure each type of fraction separately makes it much easier to read and helps you to visualize the fractions more easily.  (Again, it's hard to explain and if you don't read the site or watch the video you probably won't be able to understand what I mean.)

What's not to like? None to report! :)

The Crazy Mom take:  First off, I have to admit, we haven't really needed to use this ruler for much more than measuring inches as part of our regular school day.  However, I did let Bear take the workbook to work in for fun.  (I just love that girl, she thinks any kind of school is fun and is my most enthusiastic review assistant.)  She loved it.

As far as whole flip thing goes, I found it rather cool.  I know in the past I have tried to sometimes figure out measurements on a regular ruler and it has proven difficult.  Now, my eyes are going (should have let the doc give me those dreaded bifocals) and I need all the help I can get.

What's the bottom line? Master Ruler Standard or Metric $9.95/Master Ruler Workbook $15.95

I am going to give Master Ruler 4 out of 5 smileys!!!
