<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">About the product/service:

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, I received a free Forbrain headset from Sound for Life LTD so I could check it out and let you know my thoughts. This headset is not like other headphones where you put them over your ears to listen to someone or something. This product goes in front of your ears so that the sound goes directly into the microphone and back into your head. Yeah, kinda weird, I know!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The idea of this product is to help people of all ages (well, ages 4 and up) with a whole list of brain-related issues by using their own voice to boost their brain. Among the issues are:

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

auditory processing

sensory integration

pronunciation

rhythm

short-term memory

and many more

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The idea is basically that we hear both through our ears and through the bones in our head. This device amplifies (and filters) the sounds we speak into the mic, and even though we actually still hear our voice in our ears, as usual, we hear them more loudly than normal through our bones. Apparently, this is called bone conduction. (If you are lost, don't feel badly, as I barely understand it myself!) Anyway, there is something called the audio-vocal or auditory feedback loop. This is the normal process our brains go through when we take in sound and process it. Supposedly, if we have some sort of "glitch" in this system (my word) it can keep us from having the proper attention, concentration, memory, etc. that we need to function at our best.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I totally don't get any of this, but there is a website that is loaded with scientific explanations of all of this. Please check that out and don't rely on my explanation, which I'm sure is not nearly as clear as it should be. :)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What are the pros of this product?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The headphones are lightweight, comfortable, and fit fine. I think just about anyone could comfortably wear them. I didn't notice any specific improvements, so I did something I don't normally do until my review is posted, and that is check other reviews. I wanted to know if anyone else claimed to benefit from this product. It does appear that they have, and so, of course, if it helps people, that is definitely a plus! I cannot make that claim personally, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I just didn't seem to work for me. (Please continue to read the rest of this review for a better explanation.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Before I even opened the box, I looked it over as I was very intrigued. I honestly could not tell what on earth the product was supposed to really do. All it really says is "use your voice to boost your brain." If I were in charge of packaging, I would definitely make sure it had more info on it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As for the product itself, I feel like there is so much information and the claims are all over the map. I had a really hard time wrapping my head around what was supposed to be happening in my brain. LOL I mean, it makes total sense that if our brain was more in tune, a lot of things we do would be improved. I'm not saying it claims too much, I'm just saying, for me, it was a bit overwhelming. (I've heard a lot about brain wave optimization, but this seems completely different.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I think I really would have liked a more specific program, one where the 15 to 20 minute time period was laid out for me with the option of tweaking it to fit my needs. It's hard to fill that much time just doing weird things like singing text or taking breaths at unnatural points. (Two of the exercises.) I have people around me almost always, so that was an issue for me. Maybe if you don't share a small house with eight other people, that wouldn't be a problem. In my opinion, though, because I am pretty ADD (self-diagnosed) and have a lot of memory issues, I think I would do much better to have it very structured. Being ADD and trying to focus on doing the 15 minutes made it hard. (I'm sure if I were a child or even an adult and had a parent or other adult guiding me, it would be much easier.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">It can be tricky knowing if you are getting any benefit from using this device. Improvement is subjective. I would have loved if it had some exercises to do that you could repeat at the end of six weeks to actually get an objective understanding of your improvement. For example, have a list of words to memorize and see how many you can recall after a certain amount of time. Then, have another very similar list at the end of the trial period to see if you can remember a longer list of words.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I honestly didn't notice any significant changes in my ability to pay attention, concentrate, or remember. This could be because I haven't used it enough to really tell, and because I had no way to objectively test my results. If I had speech issues, then it would be easier for someone else to notice results. (Weirdly enough, my son tried to tell me I actually sound like I have a lisp when I have the headphones on. I don't agree, so I'm not quite sure what to think about that!) One thing the product said it helped with was singing in tune. Now if that happens, I will be shouting from the rooftops because I do not sing well, at all.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The Crazy Mom take:

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">There are not enough works to express how badly I want this to work! I am not, in any way, saying it doesn't work. I simply didn't notice a difference in myself. I am going to keep trying this because I need everything this device has to offer! I am so uncoordinated, air-headed, unfocused, etc., it's not even funny. Also, as I mentioned above, I can't sing at all, and if I could learn to carry a tune, I'd really be excited! Haha!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I feel like I really need to keep using this and become more structured in what I do. I mostly played around with it doing something different each time. I also admit, I didn't remember to do it every single day. (I was not kidding about memory issues!) I want to make some "trials" for myself and test myself. I thought of this part way through, but knew I wouldn't have had enough time to do it justice at that point. There would not have been enough time to prove out anything, and I didn't want a "false negative." Now that I am on my own with it, I will pick one exercise and stick with it.

This is a 24-pack of paint sticks. They are tempra paint, but in stick form. They twist to expose more paint as needed. They are used more like a marker, but since they are paint, they look like paint. LOL This particular kit has a wonderful range of colors, which even includes neon and metallix. They are super cool!
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I really love these! I was just sitting here thinking about this review, and it made me think back to kindergarten round up. At some point, the year before I was to enter kindergarten, there was a special day where the moms and the kids would go to the school and check the place out. I got to go paint on the easel, and I was so excited! I mean, it was half a century ago and I still remember, so yeah, I was excited, just a little. LOL Anyway, I'm pretty sure we had just primary colors, plus green, fairly large brushes, and a little bit of fear in our hearts because we knew it could get messy. If I remember correctly we all had to bring in a smock, which was most likely one of dad's old T-shirts.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Anyway, as much as I loved it, I don't think I was all that creative. I painted a lot of houses. They were all more or less the same. The sun was in the corner, the clouds were blue, and the houses all were designed by the same architect, with the same interior designer. (They all had the same blue curtains.) Oh, and the same landscaper, too! No matter, I loved it. (For fun, I recreated one of my earlier pics for this review.)
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">But, oh, what fun it would have been to have 24 colors! Perhaps I could have lived a little! I could have fired that architect, designer, and landscaper and got a little more creative! (We only had four colors, if I'm not mistaken, and no real way to mix them.) With the Thin Stix we'd have had a little more control over the paint, and we wouldn't have had to worry about getting our clothes dirty. We wouldn't have even needed a smock! Oh, and the best part, we could take them home right away because they would have been dried almost instantly. Also, the paper would stay nice and smooth. There would be just one thing that would have to stay the same. The easel. Loved that easel. Real artists use easels, and there's no way I'd want to give that up!

You know those machines that have the big claws that you use to try to win a toy? You know, the ones that eat quarters like a stressed-out mom eats chocolate? Well, I, for one, hate those things. Every time I go somewhere where they have one of those, my kids are drawn to them like flies to, uh, left out food. I have told them over and over that they are just a scam and a big waste of money. I think they actually started to believe me.

Then a few weeks ago my son Baber was at the bowling alley the day after his birthday. He had the quarter with him that his grandma had taped to his present. In went the quarter to the claw machine. Out came a very cute, but cheap toy frog.

Okay, so now I'm a liar. I had told him that you can never win those toys. I had to restate that, yes, you CAN win SOMETIMES, but it is about as rare as one of my kids picking up their mess after being told only six or seven times. I mean, it really just about never, ever happens.

So, fast forward to today. I took the kids to the store and was at the register paying the bill. The kind people at the store had the foresight to put one of those claw machines right across from the register. My two youngest, Baber, who now thinks he has some serious clawing skills, and Bear, who is also a believer. Well, I'm watching then out of the corner of my eye when I see this nice older lady workin' the claw. She drops in the quarter. Grabs a toy. Then gives the toy to my son. Okay. Now I'm REALLY a liar. But wait, there's more! She could hardly give a toy to one kid and not the other, right? So in goes another quarter, and wouldn't ya know it? Another toy! So she gives it to my daughter! And if that weren't enough she gave them a dollar so that they could each try twice. Okay, well thankfully they didn't win.

When I got done at the register I walked over and talked to the lady and "thanked her" for the toys. (I put that in quotes as I can't honestly say I am thankful for two more stuffed animals around here.) She then proceeded to tell me that she was totally into the claw game and would win them throughout the year to give out to kids on Halloween. She loves the claw so much that she even had a mini-claw game at home!

So now what is a mother to do? I have been outed as a liar as now my kids are just SURE that all it takes is a quarter or two to get a toy. I am going to have to avoid those claw machines like the plague. But like those little guys in Toy Story, I think the claw has come to get me. I have been chosen.

Just hope I don't become...The Claw Lady!!!The Crazy Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11289367291336761873noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7022856890309552142.post-56067632861222966012017-11-01T14:55:00.002-04:002017-11-02T21:25:23.928-04:00New Review! <span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The sampler I received contained everything you see in the photo above: seven tracts, the wordless book, and two bracelets. You can purchase this sample pack or the individual items (as well as several other items) in packs of ten.

What are the pros of this product?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I feel that these tracts are great for kids because they are fun! Kids love things like this, even in this day of technology. Of course, the bracelets are also cool and wearing bracelets never seems to go out of style.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">These would be great to have for Sunday School, VBS, or anywhere else you have a group of kids and a heart to evangelize.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I'm actually surprised tracts are even still around. Who reads anything anymore that's not on a screen? Apparently, people still do as all the bookstores and libraries haven't shut down yet. However, kids are all about things that have lots of colors and move. How can we take the gospel to them when they too busy playing on a phone or iPad? Well, you have to make tracts that are geared towards kids fun!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Yep, kids are all about fun, now more than ever. Enter Let the Little Children come, a company that has pulled it off! They make evangelistic tracts and tools fun! I really was impressed when I got my sample pack. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I honestly didn't expect them to be so cool. My favorite tracts are the ones that are "animated." There is a screen that you move across the picture that makes it look like it's moving. I can't really explain it that well, but you can see it here.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">My favorite "tool" is the beaded bracelet. Yes, they've been around forever, but I have always liked them. You know what I'm talking about, right? Each of the five beads represents a part of the gospel story. For example, black symbolizes sin and red symbolizes the blood of Jesus. The bracelet comes unassembled so kids can put it together themselves as you present the gospel to them. Each kit comes with the five beads, a black cord, and card which explains how to put it together and what each bead stands for. You could also wear one as a conversation starter!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The pencil grips are small silicone grips that easily slide right onto your pencil or pen. They come in three levels and help you place your fingers in just the right position to get that proper grip. The three levels are:
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<ul class="a-unordered-list a-vertical a-spacing-none" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0px 18px 18px; padding: 0px;">

The Pencil Grip for Graduation!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As you might have guessed, you start with the Crossover Grip and then transition until you are ready for graduation! (Diploma not included. Haha.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As for the scissors, they are sharper than the usual kiddy scissors, but that isn't an issue because the blade is covered with a plastic safety shield. (I would strongly suggest making sure this shield is intact each time you hand them over to your child.) There is a very narrow area left open where you insert the paper you are going to cut. It's too narrow for even the smallest finger to fit into, so there is almost no chance of your child getting cut. Also, there is a weird little lever (yellow in the photo) which helps a child new to cutting to get used to how scissors work. They seem pretty durable as far as I can tell, but I no longer have a slew of toddlers and preschoolers around to really put them to the test.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?
We had no issues with either product.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The Crazy Mom take:
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Well, first, let me admit that I have a terrible grip and so does my son, Baber, 14. The grips totally forced us to hold our pencils correctly. It definitely does that well, and it's not at all uncomfortable. However, I would say in both of our cases, we are just too old and set in our ways to really want to change. If I could go back in time, I would have loved to have had these when I was first teaching the kids how to write! Since I have a terrible grip, I wasn't the best teacher or role model. I'm not sure any of my kids actually hold their pencils correctly. Of course, in this day and age, they honestly don't use a pen and paper that much anyway. Still, it just makes sense to learn how to do it right from the beginning.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I would totally recommend these for younger kids, especially beginners, who aren't too set in their ways, or for people who are determined to make a change. (To be honest, I actually have pretty nice handwriting despite my freaky grip, so I'm okay with how I write.)
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As far a the scissors, we are pretty much (okay totally) out of that stage, though we somehow still have several pairs of safety scissors floating around here. I mean, with my youngest being 14 it's been a while since I've needed any, though my hope is that it won't be too many years before I have some grandkids who might want to come over and do crafts. :)
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Anyway, I have to admit, these scissors are a bit odd-looking. I'm not really sure how necessary the sharper blade with the extra plastic guard really is. I mean, how precise does a child really need to be? I don't recall ever having an issue with the standard scissors for the type of projects my kids were doing when they were younger. Just because the scissors can be more precise, doesn't mean a toddler or preschooler has the ability to really take advantage of that. Am I right? However, as a child gets older, they do develop more fine motor skills, so I guess it's nice that when they do reach that level and are ready for a sharper, more precise blade, you can still have the safety of the plastic guard.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Basically, when choosing these over regular safety scissors, you gain a sharper blade and more safety, but the tradeoff is that it's a bit trickier to slide the paper into the narrow opening in order to cut it. If I were in the market for scissors I would probably want to have both kinds available and would just use whatever pair best fit the project we were doing. Since they aren't much more expensive than regular scissors, they would be nice to have around. Are they a necessity? No, I don't think so. Are they useful? I would say, in some cases yes. For four dollars, they would be nice to have around and it certainly won't break the bank. If you are looking for both precision and safety, I would gladly recommend these.

The other day I celebrated 22 years of marital bliss to my dear husband, Sane Man. Well, bliss might not be the word, but he does put up with me, and aside from being sane, the man's a saint. I mean, if you had to be married to me, you would understand.

So we're old now. We really had no big plans for our special day. We did go out to dinner, and that was really it. We couldn't think of anything else to do. All we did was stop at the drug store to get my son some medicine and get gas. How romantic.

There was one thing I did want to do for my anniversary, get my engagement ring fixed. You see, I'd lost the diamond out of it (it's okay, I found it), and I wanted to take it to the jewelers. I did take it with me, but the place we bought it is no longer there, and we weren't sure where to take it. It got to be late so we never got to it. (You know all that getting gas and drugs takes time.)

Anyway, I got home and decided that I should probably get my wedding band enlarged a little as it was quite tight. While I was thinking of it, I decided to take it off and put it with my engagement ring. Well, boy was it stuck on there. My poor finger was actually suffocating. I got out the Vaseline. I ran my hand under cold water. I twisted and pulled. But I could barely budge it. This is when my dear husband decided to get involved.

Sane Man: You'd better let me help you get that off.

Me: NO! I can do it. It already hurts enough.

Sane Man: Your finger is turning purple. You're cutting off your circulation.

Me: I can do it.

Sane Man: You're not doing it.

Me: But it will hurt.

Sane Man: You need to get it off. It won't hurt that bad.

Me: Okay. I guess. But, please don't hurt me too much.

Sane Man: Come here. (Starts pulling.)

Me: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Sane Man: It's off. That wasn't that bad, was it?

Me: It was like giving birth.

Then I had to think about it for a minute. Just how many women spend their anniversary having their husbands rip their wedding rings off? Not many I hope! :)The Crazy Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11289367291336761873noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7022856890309552142.post-42857924760399269602017-10-05T08:00:00.000-04:002017-10-10T12:17:53.453-04:00Throw Back Thursday: What's Under Your Couch Cushion?Originally posted July 8, 2011:

You know the commercial that asks, "What's in your wallet?" Well, I'd like to ask you, "What's under your couch cushions?"

I used to try to keep things clean under my couch cushions. Several years ago I had a weekly meeting in my home. Each Wednesday I would make sure to dutifully clean and even vacuum under each cushion. There was one time I didn't get to it, and wouldn't you know, some friends brought their sick kid to the meeting who proceeded to throw up right in the corner of my couch. It was clean up the puke myself and avoid letting them see what was lurking under there, or let them do it and expose myself. Well, in that case, I chose the latter, but any other time I would be just horrified if anyone saw what was actually under there. That is, until now. I see the junk under the couch cushions in a whole new light!

It's amazing how helpful it has been to keep that treasure trove just as it is! The other day I needed a pencil. I reached my hand in the cushion and "Voila!" there was a pencil! Then my husband yelled that his comb was missing as he rushed to get ready for work. I reach in my trusty treasure stash, and "Tada!" there was a comb! The other day my daughter had a great time. She decided to reach in to see what she could find. Wouldn't you know, she came up with two miniature Mr. Goodbars and a Starkist candy! What fun! So you see, you have to look at things in a different light. Now, whenever I need something, a pencil, comb, nail clippers, ponytail holder or midnight snack, I just reach on into my trusty couch and I am never disappointed. Just don't bring over any sick kids.

Take that cleanies!!!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Happy 52nd Birthday to my man, Sane Man, the technical to my creative, the spontaneous to my planning, the spender to my frugal, tall to my short. We're total opposites in so many ways. We can't even agree how to set the thermostat. Sometimes I ask him, "Don't you have somewhere to go?"

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Yet, over these past 30 years we have become one. We've learned so much from one another. We've become better people. I still blush when he looks into my eyes. I never tire of him telling me that he loves me. The reason for all of this is simple. We have one thing in common. We're both Jesus Freaks. While this may have started out a tribute to Dave, it's really a tribute to the Lord. God is good.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">About the product/service: As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, I received a free Unauthorized game from Chara Games. Note: That's the name of the game, it's not that someone sent the game without permission. LOL This game is meant to teach about the struggles of the underground Christian church using a social deduction model. Now, I am not huge into games, so I have no idea what that really means, but I do know that this game pits the pastor/church against the state. I am pretty much the absolute worst at learning and teaching these kinds of games, but my kids are totally adept at it. It seems like many of the other kinds of games they play are set up similarly. I tend to stick to card type games, meaning using regular playing cards. This game does use cards, but they are character and "experience" cards.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Check out this YouTube video to see how to play: <span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhOdlch2XZU
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Note about the YouTube video: In the video the cards seem to be in some sort of protective sleeve. The cards don't come that way, but are like normal playing cards.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What are the pros of this product?
We have it so easy here in America and other countries where there is religious freedom. It's not like it used to be, that's for sure, but we can still worship (or not worship) as we see fit. There are many places around the globe where that just isn't a reality. Christians are being persecuted in record numbers. How do we bring awareness to this issue? Playing a game? Well, at first that might seem a little silly. However, anything that brings awareness to an issue can spark a flame of compassion for those suffering. From there we can make others aware, pray, and maybe even find a way to do something about. This game is a great way to bring the subject up with family and friends. Sometimes people don't like to hear about things that might cause them to feel bad, but we can bring out a game and get the conversation started.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"> <span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Since the game is for 6 to 12 players it can be hard to find enough people available to play. Even with nine of us here, it wasn't easy to find six people who were available. I would suggest bringing the game to a church function or Bible study if your family is small, busy, or just never all home at once.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Also, each of the character cards is two-sided. You can choose either side to represent yourself. The pastor cards happen to have both male and female pastors. If you happen to believe that the pastoral role is reserved for men, this could be an issue. I would simply suggest that you use the other side of the card. Also, the reality is that some pastors in the persecuted church are female, so it simply depicts reality. I just thought I'd throw that out there. (My kids also thought the female pastor was a little too sexy with her colored hair and tight shirt. Check the cards out yourself below. Also, the male cop is overweight and eating a donut. LOL Stereotypes anyone?)
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The Crazy Mom take:
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">It definitely took some time to figure out how to play. To be honest, I'm still not sure if we really have it down. This is normal for these kinds of games from my experience, though. If you are taking it to a Bible study or something, it would be very helpful to really get an idea of how it works so you don't have to spend all your time figuring it out.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">It was very interesting to look at all the thought that went into the experience cards. It really made me think! Your character can experience everything from learning spiritual truths, to encountering neverending joy, to being wrongly imprisoned or worse. Of course, if you're a police officer you can go so far as to execute someone! It's also really hard to take the side of the state, but there are times you almost have to. Actually, every move is difficult. Of course, other than whoever played the police officer, we all tended to lean toward making moves that helped gain more Christian cards, but sometimes that wasn't so cut and dry. Helping another player can actually put you in jeopardy. In that sense, it parallels what actually happens in the underground church. It can be a bit confusing, but my kids actually had a lot of fun playing it.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">About the product/service: As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, I received several books from Carole P. Roman, including If You Were Me and Lived in... Egypt and If You Were Me and Lived in... Greece from the Cultural Series.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What are the pros of this product?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">These are the kind of books I like to have around the house. I have always sought them out to fill my bookshelves. I hated learning about geography in school because it was nothing but boring maps with a few facts and figures thrown in and learning lists of countries and capitals which meant pretty much nothing to me. These types of books are written more like a story which invites the reader to come and see what it would be like to live as a child in another country. Much more interesting!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The only thing I can think of is that because the books look like typical picture books, it may turn off an older child. Now, my daughter will read anything, and my son gets intimidated by small print and pages filled with words, so they both were totally okay with the books I read even though they were just a little out of the age range they were written for. (See below.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium; font-weight: bold;">

The Crazy Mom take:

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">First I have to admit, my intention was to ask for books in the Historical Series, but I guess I somehow asked for books in the Cultural Series, which is supposed to be for ages 4-8ish. My kids are 14 and 16. Oops! Being a committed person, I still read the books to my kids in lieu of our usual economics class. They didn't seem to mind at all. I still think they got something out of it, after all, new information is new information, right? They (and I) still learned all about everyday life in each country, such as the common foods, traditions, and sports. We even learned a few new words. (I also got a book about Germany as well as Greece and Egypt which follows the same format.)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">As I said earlier, I did intend to get books from the Historical Series which is for kids roughly 8-15, which would have been in the right age range, but I didn't. My reason for wanting the historical books wasn't actually based on age, but based on the fact that it's been quite some time since we studied ancient history and I thought it would be a nice refresher. The nice thing is that the books do briefly mention the Greece and Egypt of old, so it was a win-win. :) Not only that, I did get sent an additional book which actually is from the Historical Series called If You Were Me and Lived in...Renaissance Italy. <span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I found this book to actually be quite similar to the others. The main difference is that these are books about history and do include more detail. The main set up of the book though, giving information about daily life such as foods, traditions, and sports is more or less the same. Each of these four books is basically a picture book and is nicely illustrated.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I was sent one more book, Oh Susannah: It's in the bag<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">. This is actually a fictional chapter book meant for ages 7-12. It's one of many other fictional books available. This particular book is about a young girl who has a bad day, and somehow each bad moment includes something that adds to the weight in her backpack, s<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">uch as unfinished homework, a quiz she totally failed, and an invitation to a party she didn't want to attend. By bedtime, both the backpack and Susannah burst under the weight of it all. All in all, I found these to be quality books that I will gladly keep here for my grandchildren to read, or will pass along to one of my kids for their kids. I really wish I could afford the whole set of both the Cultural Series and the Historical Series. I would highly recommend these books. :)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's the bottom line?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The If You Were Me... books are $11.99 paperback/$24.99 hardcover/$2.99 Kindle (Unless you have Unlimited, then you can read free!) The other books have various prices.

All school year long, I wait for summer. That's when I'll have a lot more time to get things done around here, I convince myself. Then summer comes, and we go on vacation. Not only do I things not get done, but I fall even more behind. Finally, I get caught back up to our normal chaos, and I have pretty much the whole month of August to get stuff done. But I don't. Why? Because I have so much time, and it's just way too easy to procrastinate.

So, this year, I actually looked forward to the school year, as I guess I just do better with a more organized schedule. So far, so good. Since last week was Labor day, this is our first full week of school. Yesterday was our first day of co-op. It was by far the most productive day I've had in a long time.

We work up about 7:00 and had family Bible time with my husband.

Then it was off to co-op, for a 50-minute biology class, which is 45 minutes away! It's our first year, so I didn't know the way, and only knew of one person we know who would for sure be there. (Actually, she's the reason we are willing to drive 45 minutes!)

We got within 4 minutes of the church where the co-op is located and we heard a loud, grinding sound. It was our tire. I realize I normally communicate with my friend with facebook messenger, so I don't have her actual number. I turn on my data and it doesn't work. We were literally out in cornfields. I realize that might not be a big deal for some, but I am a suburbanite. Thankfully, I still had an email pulled up from the co-op leader because I needed the church address to put in my GPS. She had given out her number in case we had any questions. I had a question. Can someone rescue us? LOL

The answer was yes, and my friend was there in minutes. We got in her car and got there with time to spare. (No pun intended.) Since she is the teacher, I guess we couldn't have been late, anyway. :)

On my way in, I saw the one other person I realized I knew there. I asked if she could drive me back to my van. She thankfully had nowhere to be the first hour, so she took me. I then called AAA. It seemed like just minutes before the AAA guy arrived and fixed the tire. I hopped in my van and followed my friend back to the church where my kids were still in class for five minutes. Then we uneventfully drove our 45 minutes home, but not without our traditional first day of co-op Taco Bell. I skipped that, and got my free large mocha frappe from McDonald's. We were home at 11:01.

Once home, I made up a menu for the week and Bear and I headed out to Aldi. We came back and put the perishable groceries away and had to run out the door for the orthodontist at 2:30. We left a little early because my son wanted me to drop him off to get his hair cut. (That didn't work out, as the place was closed, so he went to visit his grandma who lives just a few blocks away.) Bear got to her appointment in time and is now sporting some very painful rubber bands. This is the first time she's been in pain, so she really can't complain.

Then we had to get home and get dinner in the oven before heading out to her very first piano lesson at 4:30. After that, we were finally home for the evening, or so I thought. After eating and helping my husband pull together what he needed for his first post-summer men's Bible study, all I could think of was relaxing. That's until my older daughter, Princess, asked if I wanted to go to the gym. Of course, I said yes.

It was a busy day, that didn't start off so great. Honestly, though, I couldn't have orchestrated getting my tire fixed so painlessly if I had tried. I told my kids that I really felt God's protection and provision much greater because of the mini-trial we went through. Had we gone to co-op without a hitch, I might not have appreciated it as much. I was truly thankful, and getting that flat ended up being a blessing because it truly reminded me how much God loves me, and also that, as my mom always says, God is in control.

Blessings!
I try to eat better, exercise more, read my Bible more regularly, take my supplements and medicines on time, etc. I like to update my progress here as a way to kind of be accountable. I am actually making some progress.

Back in April I went to the doc's and a few things were off in my bloodwork. I set out to fix that and I don't think I've missed a day of supplements since then! I also use my asthma meds consistently and have noticed some improvement.

I rarely miss a day reading my Bible. I use the YouVersion app and it's made all the difference.

My daughter, Princess, and I have been going to the gym the last several Mondays. Yeah, it's only once a week, but it's a start. I also have some hand weights sitting out, and I'll just randomly use them for a few minutes here and there. What really needs work is my core. It will happen eventually. (I hope!)

My eating habit could still use some work. I admit I eat out of stress and boredom and I need to stop.

Cleaning is always a struggle. We keep the main living area manageable, but the upstairs where the kids' bedrooms (and by kids I mean five adults and two teens) has always been a disaster. My husband and I don't go up there much, but he happened to go up there a week or so ago and just decided enough was enough. He went into one of the boys' rooms and just bagged everything up. He is also buying all new mattresses for everyone (except for my daughter who has a newer one) and putting a new floor in as well as painting. That is one of the main areas that needed the most work, so I am happy about that. My fun contribution to all of this is going through all the bags of stuff he bagged up. Fun.

I know I could do a whole lot better in a lot of areas, but I suppose I could also do worse. I just keep making goals and actually meeting some occasionally. I figure making the goals is the first step, so I am at least doing that! LOL Of course I will never be perfect and that's okay. I just keep moving forward.
It's basically a Halloween tract that folds into a pumpkin! It's so cute! It's made out of heavy glossy paper that looks like a flower. The six petals that lay out the salvation message. You put candy inside (I'd say it would hold 2-5 pieces depending on the candy) and fold it up. It's really easy to do and only took my son about a minute.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What are the pros of this product?
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">This is a great way to make Halloween an opportunity to share the love of Jesus! The box is sturdy and colorful, and the message is positive. That it holds candy makes it fun! It's a win-win all around! :)

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">I have to say, they are a bit on the expensive side at close to 80 cents a piece. Most people usually don't spend that much per child when handing out Halloween candy. If you think of it as part of your missionary spending, that might make the cost a lot easier to swallow!<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">Also, you will have to assemble the boxes and put the candy in them. I don't think that's a problem unless you are a procrastinator. (Raises hand. LOL) Seriously, though, your kids will probably enjoy the task. :)
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">The Crazy Mom take:
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">Every single year Halloween is an issue around here. We usually put off deciding what we are going to do until the last minute. While I don't think it's necessarily wrong or a sin to participate, I'm not altogether thrilled with what it's become. When I was a kid, it seemed like it was just a fun holiday for little kids. Sure, some people decorated in scary ways, but that wasn't the focus. It was just fun to go get candy from the neighbors. I used to actually be disciplined enough to stretch out eating my candy until Christmas!
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">Now, it just seems different. The focus seems to be less on kids and candy, and more on older kids and adults and scary stuff. When I was young you quit trick-or-treating by junior high. Now kids are going into their 20s! I know, a twenty-something is an adult, but, um, we're talking about trick-or-treaters here.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: small;">So, anyway, we have let the kids go out, we've kept them home and passed out candy, and we've ignored the whole thing and gone out to eat. Every year I wish I had some way to make it a positive thing. I always tell myself we should buy some Halloween tracts or something. I never do. LOL Last year we made something ourselves, but it wasn't great. Now I have a solution! I think these are just great! What a fun way to share the gospel. These will definitely stand out in a kid's trick-or-treat bag. Sure some will take out the candy and toss the cute little pumpkin, but at least the Word of God is out there. You can't beat that!
Finally, it just stopped. Now, it hadn't been that long that I'd mostly caught up with the laundry before going on vacation, but those glory days are over. We finally broke down and bought a new one. Goodbye $600.

At the same time my dishwasher refused to turn on. I hate phone calls and we dealt with hand washing and paper plates for a few weeks until I finally got around to calling. Then it was over a week before the repairman could come out. Finally, he did and had to replace both the panel and he motor. The firs time I ran it was making some awfully strange noises. I've run it about twice since then and it seems a little better, but I might have to call him back.

Then, as if having a bad dryer didn't put us behind in laundry enough, our washer is acting up. It will run until it gets to the spin and drain cycle and then stop. We have figured out how to get it to eventually spin and drain, but it's not a great system.

My husband's laptop is in for repair, but it should be done today. He's been without it several weeks. We actually got American Express to pay over $300 for the repairs because they extend the warranty. (So do most credit cards.) It's a long, drawn out process, though. Still, I guess it's worth it! (On a very happy note, I am typing on my laptop which wouldn't work for days and suddenly, after I prayed for it, is working fine!)

Two days ago, my husband sat in his chair and it broke. He took it this morning to be fixed.

My fridge is making a squealing noise. And, now that I think about it, so it my van.

Ugh! Why do things seems to go like this? One thing breaks and it's like a domino effect. Suddenly it seems like out whole world is breaking down. Truth is, it is. Nothing here on this earth is eternal. Remember that verse about our treasures?

Matthew 6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (NIV)

My appliances, electronics, furniture, and vehicles are not eternal. I'll be happy if they give me even a few good years of service. I can't count on them to last forever, and even if they did, I won't be here forever myself! During times like this, I like to remind myself that these things have very little, if any effect on eternity. What's important is our love for and our service to Christ and others. We can't take our earthly treasures with us when we die. (I wouldn't want to have to do laundry in heaven anyway!) Life is so much easier when we learn to live our lives with an eternal perspective. :)

I got the mail the other day, and I couldn't figure out why I was getting a package from the Rush Revere folks. I had done a review for them, and it was a thank you gift! As you can see above, it included a nice card, a DVD, a travel cup, a bookmark, a bag, and even a stuffed Liberty! Yes, my 16-year-old daughter loved it all! I thought that was really nice of them. I've never had a vendor do anything like this before! I thought I'd give them a shout out. Thanks, Rush! If you'd like to purchase any of these items (except the card, lol) just go to www.rushrevere.com. The Crazy Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11289367291336761873noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7022856890309552142.post-83561744844411330622017-08-22T13:06:00.002-04:002017-08-24T11:11:28.727-04:00New Review! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">About the product/service:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, I received a free pdf copy of The Everyday Chore System from Everyday Homemaking. (The book is also available as a physical product.) The book is written by Vicki Bentley who is not only the mother of eight daughters, but has had something like 50 foster kids in her home!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The book begins with a discussion about how to lay the foundation for having an organized, clean home. It talks about two main goals. The first is to train the child to see helping out around the house as a way to serve the other family members. (I have exactly one child who really has this attitude.) The second is to teach each child how to do the basic chores that everyone needs to know before reaching adulthood. (At least most of mine have these skills.) There are basic tips for child-training in these areas, although Vicki is clear that the book is not a child-training manual.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The next part of the book discusses both what each child should be able to do by age and gives ideas about setting up a well-functioning chore system. It's not a one size fits all system, but a basic outline of how to decide what needs to be done and how to create a system that works for you. She details how she has done it with her own family and gives ideas that will work for just about everyone, but with modifications to fit your families own needs.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Also, I want to mention that Vicki also has written a book called Everyday Cooking. Some of the other members of the TOS Homeschool Review Crew have reviewed that book, so if you click on the link or banner below to see what other crew members think, you'll see reviews for both books.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">What are the pros of this product?
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">This book is well organized and simple enough for everyone to understand. She has a lot of great ideas but is not one of those people who promise that you will achieve perfection by following her system or puts together a system that is rigid and complicated. She is down to earth and admits that children (and moms!) are a work in progress. However, if you're a mom and have never really had a system, this is a great way to get one together.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">What's not to like?
I can't really see any issues here.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">The Crazy Mom take:
I have to say that I've already implemented pretty much everything in this book in my own home. (Not sure why it's a total mess right now. LOL) We have done the charts, lists, the zones, etc. I think when you have a big family, you almost have to and you figure it out on your own. LOL My kids are 14 to 26 so we are pretty much past the training stage, so this book wasn't hugely helpful to me, but I do think it would be great for a younger mom whose kids are still small. I mean the fact that she lays out pretty much exactly what I have done is proof that I agree with her system! If you have kids under ten or so, or have older kids but have never worked out a chore system, this book would probably be very helpful. :)
I thought you'd like to check them out, too. Bassist Parke Cotrell was homeschooled through 8th grade. Also, Will and Caleb were each homeschooled for one year. :)
I pretty much have this year's school subjects planned and what I am going to use. Because I'm down to just two kids, I am going to pretty much do the same thing with both of them together, and they will work independently on the rest.

For math, Bear will continue with Khan Academy. She loves it. She is very motivated to work through it and get the points or whatever rewards they offer. Baber will continue with Life of Fred. He's in Beginning Algebra this year.

I ordered the high school grammar review workbook for both students from Queen Homeschool Supply. I love Queen because the books include a fairly short lesson for each day. It's not so much that it's overwhelming, and the kids don't complain. They both have seemed to learn a lot.

In addition to the grammar review, I am going to continue to do read-alouds with them. We do this every year, and I've read quite a few classics over the years. I am also going to have Sarah do the Lightning Lit we reviewed in the spring. Both kids will continue to work on spelling.

They'll be taking Apologia biology at co-op. It's going to be quite a challenge because it starts at 9:00 on Monday morning and is a 45-minute drive. I might hate myself. LOL

I'm still thinking about history. We've done so much I'd like to change it up a bit this year. We'll have to see.

Of course, we'll continue to learn sign language.We've been doing it for years. We use several resources for this from books to DVDs to online classes.

We've done plenty of art over the years, and will continue to do so. I don't really follow a single curriculum because I have so much stuff gathered from over the years. I love when we review art products because it really forces us to do more.

Bear will also be hopefully taking piano classes. The lady we were going to use just told me she may not be taking new students this year. I should find out in a few days.

Of course, life skills around here happens every day. You wouldn't know it to look at my house, though.

Last but not least, we will continue our Bible studies. I really don't like to think of this as school though, as it's part of daily life. I have to admit, however, that we are much more regular with systematic Bible study when we do it together as part of our day.

As much as I love the freedom of summer, I'm glad to get back to a more structured life. I can't believe I am in the final stretch. Only four more years to go. Here's to another school year!
I just got some exciting news! I can't wait to tell you, but it will have to wait. Now that I am only four years out from finishing this homeschool gig, I am looking to change up direction a little bit. I don't plan to completely lose my homeschool focus, but I do plan to change up a few things. Stay tuned!The Crazy Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11289367291336761873noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7022856890309552142.post-12595278845832279962017-07-31T14:50:00.002-04:002017-07-31T14:55:10.092-04:00Oh my goodness! Tomorrow is August!

HELLO AUGUST!

I don't know about you, but I think it's crazy how quickly the summer is going! I mean, I know it happens every year, and every year I try to brace myself for it, but somehow it still amazes me how fast the time flies!

It seems like school starts and then suddenly it's fall, Halloween comes, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then it's a new year. I feel like this one just got started!

I have a confession to make. I haven't even started to think about the new school year. I mean, this is my 22nd year, so I'm not exactly a noob or anything, but I might want to get going on that. Oh, and I still haven't done my summer cleaning. I always look forward to summer so I can catch up on housework, and I always fail. We've been on vacation too much this summer. Two one-week vacations are like six weeks of lost work time. Yes, it takes me a whole week to get ready to leave and another to recover. I'm seriously probably the only person to complain about too much vacation. LOL

We keep talking about moving. I really dread the thought. I mean, if packing for vacation seems overwhelming, packing up a whole house really seems overwhelming. I guess it will force me to declutter and get rid of stuff, so maybe I'll just put it all off until then. LOL

So, anyway, even though I never follow through, I am going to post my August goals.

Here they are:

1. Plan for school. (I kinda have to do this one!)
2. Organize school stuff and shelves.
3. Love myself anyway, even though I don't get much done. LOL

There ya go! That sounds doable. I'd love to hear anyone else's grand plans.

Have a great rest of the summer!

This is actually a paper mache craft kit that uses Rigid Wrap rather than newspaper and CelluClay instead of that flour and water goop you've probably used in the past. It also comes with access to a free e-book with additional fun projects to try. This kit is for smaller projects, but once you try it there are all kinds of clay materials that you can buy.(They sell both air dry and kiln dry clays.) The possibilities are endless. Oh, and it can be used for younger kids for sure, but even advanced artists will enjoy working with this kit.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I gave this kit to my 16-year-old daughter, Bear, to try. She chose to make the small candy dish. I'm always excited to try any kind of art projects. It's especially nice when there isn't a lot of prep involved. I really like it when we get to review things like this during summer when we have a little more time on our hands.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">First, I think it was a bit easier to get started with this project than it is with regular paper mache. The rigid wrap is really cool because the paste is already in the wrap. (Technically, it's plaster coated gauze.) Bear was making a bowl, so to do that she took a bowl that we already owned, wrapped it in plastic wrap, and then used that as a cast. (Oh boy, that's that's the right word, I hope.) Anyway, she took strips of the wrap and then layered it over the outside of the bowl. When she wet it, it "activated" the clay and she was able to mold it around the bowl. I hope I am making sense here! It's really quite a simple process. LOL Anyway, after it dried long enough, she was able to remove the original bowl and plastic wrap and she was left with a little candy bowl! She simply painted it a solid blue and isn't sure if she actually wants to add more detail, but it's really awesome how simple it was to make.Very cool, indeed.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">It's been quite hectic around here with all the vacationing we've been doing. We've had to really get creative to fit in all the review products around here. This is one of those reviews that I'd have liked to do myself, but I just didn't have the time. However, we have plenty of materials left, so I just might come up with an idea of my own! I would recommend this product to anyone.

I'm so excited that Kevin Max has a new album out. It's called Serve Somebody. Remind you of a song by Bob Dylan? Well, it should, because Kevin covers the song on this album, twice actually, along with six other tracks by a diverse range of artists including U2, Rich Mullins, and Larry Norman.

Who is Kevin Max? Well, first, how could you not know? lol He's one of the three amazingly talented guys who made up dc Talk, only the greatest Christian music trio ever. (I might be a little biased.) Anyway, if you've heard the band at all, you'll probably remember one voice that stood out. That guy, the one with all that amazing vibrato, is the one and only Kevin Max. Oh, and he also happens to be a homeschool dad. :)

Now, I'm just giving a heads up here. I haven't even heard the whole album yet, though I've heard bits and pieces. I must say, as a huge fan of early U2, he does incredible justice to Pride (In the Name of Love.) Everything else sounds great, too. I mean, it's Kevin Max, ya'll.

Of course, you can check it out just about anywhere, so do yourself a favor and do so! I plan to buy it later today, but I wanted to get this post out ASAP.

Get it pretty much anywhere you buy or listen to music. Find it on iTunes here.

Happy Listening!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">About the product/service: As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, I received a free copy of the movie Trust Fund and a copy of the book Love Was Near from Mapelle Films so we could check them out and let you know what we think.

The movie is based on the story of the prodigal son from the Bible, but in this case, the story is contemporary and the prodigal is a daughter. A young girl discovers she has been left millions, but her father hasn't told her. She finds a way to transfer the money into her own account and takes off to Italy. Of course, things go wrong. The book was inspired by the movie. Watch the movie trailer here.

What are the pros of this product?

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Well, y'all know how much I like to promote homeschooling and homeschoolers. The filmmaker behind this movie, Isaac Alongi, was homeschooled in grades 1-12. I think that is totally cool. His wife, Sandra, wrote and directed the film. He credits homeschooling for giving him the time to pursue his dreams of becoming a photographer and filmmaker. Read about Isaac here.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">This is a well-done movie. The film quality itself is good. (Ugh, so many Chrisitan movies as so low-budget that the quality just suffers.) Also, the music score is good, and the story is well-written. It's quality work. Now, honestly, I'd say it was more like a TV movie than something you'd see in a theater, but it was definitely done well.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I love the fact that there are actually good Christian movies out there that I can watch without feeling like I am compromising my faith. It's better yet when the film actually teaches biblical truth.
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">Love Was Near, as I stated above, is based on the movie. It actually goes back and gives a lot of the back story that isn't in the film. It's more than just a novel, however. It's written from the perspective of Reese, the main character, in the for of a diary.It actually has questions after each chapter and is almost more like a devotional. In other words, the questions aren't about characters, settings, or points in the plot, but they are designed to get you thinking about the story and relating it to your own life. I have never seen a movie and book combination set up quite like this. I liked it!

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's not to like? I really found nothing objectionable in the movie. My daughter had no issues with the book. She liked the way it was set up and she enjoyed getting more of the story after watching the movie.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">The Crazy Mom take:

<span style="color: red; font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I watched this movie with my 16-year-old daughter, Bear. It's well done enough, that even my teenage boys stopped to check it out as they walked through the living room. I liked that it was the prodigal son story, but with a twist. I've actually seen several films based on the story, but this is the best I've seen. While it is based on the parable, it is unique enough that you don't end up knowing every point in the plot ahead of time.
<span style="color: red; font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I would recommend Trust Fund to anyone, and since it's not really preachy, it's something you could easily watch with unsaved friends without them feeling like you're "trying to shove your religion down their throats." That being said, it could easily be used as a springboard for a discussion of God's love for us and His willingness to forgive us now matter how far we stray.

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">What's the bottom line?
Trust Fund $14.99Love Was Near<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;"> $12.99

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">I am going to give The Trust Fund <span style="font-family: "verdana"; font-size: medium;">5 out of 5 hearts!!! <3 font=""></3>💜💜💜💜💜
